Oh God no, I agree. It is really rather good in places. My issues aren't even Martha related. Its Gollum!Doctor and Tinkerbell!Doctor I have a problem with. I even like Martha's exit. I know others have problems with it, but on reflection I think it's a beautiful scene.
I have decided that Gollum! and Tinkerbell! are mostly attempts to piss off fandom, and thus I have decided to be contrary and not actively hate them. As cracked out versions of a fevered dream (which is what I think they are), they're quite entertaining.
Martha's exit took me so completely by surprise the first time that I didn't really notice all the subtle nuances layered in it. Once I got past that, there's just so much to see and appreciate in it - Ten's desperate attempt at just moving on from the end of the world, Martha standing up for herself, Ten's quiet look of devastation as he hugs her goodbye, but not letting her see it because he doesn't do emotions like that, Martha throwing him the phone and his smile of relief as he realises that she's coming back some time in the future... I think it's one of my favourite scenes now.
A lot of fandom didn't like that scene at all because they felt that Martha deserved more. It would have been nice for her to see the look on Ten's face, I agree but I'm kinda happy knowing how shitty he felt.
That scene is one of, if not my absolute, favourite Martha moment. She is so strong to walk away - OMG I LOVE HER!
Martha did deserve more, but this is the Tenth Doctor, the King of Denial. He seems to only ever acknowledge things after the fact. So I'm still angry at him for not just opening his stupid mouth, but I admire her so much for the way she handles it. No needling, no whining, no pouting, just head held strong, doing what she knows is the right thing to do. Martha's my girl.
I have so many favourite Martha moments, I can't even begin to count them. She really is made of awesome.
