magicallaw: (promo: ten/martha - she was brilliant)
[personal profile] magicallaw
It's a year ago today that I started my job. Wow, it feels like a lot longer, and just like yesterday at the same time. I was remembering my first day at work today and recalled how I went of out of my way to get the new edition of the Radio Times to read on the train for it had Penis Face Dalek Sec on the front cover. This then reminded me that, apparently, we should be having a Who front cover on next week's edition. This surely means Dr Martha Jones on the front, no?

I really need episode 4 to hurry up as I feel like I am slightly cheating on ma Marfa with all of my Donna love. Working on my Martha/Romana post for the rare ships month on [livejournal.com profile] who_otp has reminded me how much I love this woman, so that's good. Reading the reactions of the New Found Donna Lovers/Martha Haters on the DWF had somewhat harshed ma squee, I have to admit. However, comparisons were always going to be made between both the character and the actress. What really annoys me is the inability of some people to realise that they are both (all in fact, if we are including Rose/Bille in this) are different characters and different actresses. People are saying how Freema would never have coped with the some of the scenes that Catherine had in TFoP. Of course, that's a maybe. The most important thing to remember is that the character of Martha would have reacted differently to Donna. That's the wonderful thing about new companions.

I'm loving the Doctor and Donna relationship at the moment 'cos it's different to anything we have seen in Nu Who. She challenges the Doctor a bit more I think, that is true. But the most important thing is that he has learned from his time with both Rose and Martha. TFoP would not have been the same episode if Martha was with him because he was a different man back then. Ten's all grown up now, and has learned a lot from his travels with his two former companions. He's doing right by Donna, and to quote his previous carnation, 'isn't that fantastic?'

I have such high hopes for the rest of the series right now, I can't tell you. Some of you may think I'm being naive in trusting Rusty. However, this is the man that made ELO a key factor in an episode of Doctor Who; I don't think I've got it in me to hate him.

So, erm, yes. The point of this post was to sort of say how much I still love Martha and how I can't wait for her return. I'm not sure that's come across all that well (I have had four pints on a school night), but I miss her geeky ways, her subtle humour, her arse, her everything, basically. Roll on April 26th, is what I say. My telly might explode with the sheer awesome, but I'll still have a smile on my face.

That is a load of total crap. They must not remember anything about Martha other than their dislike. I'm really enjoying Donna, and not sure which companion I would say I like "better" at this point, but I don't have to tear Martha down to build Donna up. Morons.

QUOTED FOR TRUTH!!!

I've often said that the Doctor marks the passage of time by his companions, and with each new one he takes, he learns something valuable about himself. something that makes him a bit more human, imo. And I'm just loving how you can really see the influence of both Rose and Martha on him now with Donna. It's brilliant.

That's exactly what was running through my mind at the end of The Fires of Pompeii. I had the feeling that Martha would have accepted the Doctor's refusal to save everyone quicker than Donna, perhaps because of her youth and experience as a med student. She probably realises that sometimes, you can't save everybody. And that's a concept that Donna, pre-Doctor, most likely never had to consider on a personal level before.

Also, face penis.

Yes. She wouldn't have liked it all that much, but she would have accepted that that's just the way it is (which it is some times). I also love how more human Donna is then Rose: the most human human, like, ever.

Also, face penis.

I have lots and lots of word for this post. I actually adored Rose. Then I adored Martha and NOW I adore Donna and it baffles me that any of these 3 have to be mutually exclusive.

And am full of squee for the coming season.

Question though, what's ELO?

Also: OMG you are doing Martha/Romana for [livejournal.com profile] who_otp. Am so thrilled about this, they're such a fantastic pairing. :D

Jeff Lynne and the Electric Light Orchestra (the band that Elton was so fond of in 'Love and Monsters').

Yes, to my better judgement :p. That said, though, I've pretty much sorted out what I'm going to post. Just the few odds and ends to tie up. They clearly are a fantastic pairing, and I hope that, maybe, my post might inspire more fannish content.

I felt like that, too, and then I realized it was silly. I've been thinking about their differences and how much they provide and how wonderfully impactful they are in their different ways. I really can't wait to see them together. Speaking of, another thing that helped me stopped feeling like I was a dirty cheating companion love tramp was thinking about how soon she'll be coming back and instinctively beginning to squeak rather loudly. So I'm assuming all is safe. XD

I don't get the whole hating on companions thing. Of course they're all different! Rose =/= Martha =/= Donna just like Nine =/= Ten even though they are still the same person! I agree with having high hopes for this season though. Even only two episodes in I am very, very squeeful.

I can't wait for Martha though. Even though I love Donna as companion (even if just a smidge more than Martha and Rose) nothing can stop my love of Martha or my girl crush on Martha/Freema.

I've gone back and forth between optimism and pessimism about S4 so much, I'm quite seasick. As far as Donna goes, I think anyone who hates her has no soul. And I say so despite the fact that I think it sucks that Rose cooked and Martha set the table and now Donna's eating the dinner. And also that she's allowed to be more assertive and challenging specifically because there's no obvious love or unrequited love story, because of course women's emotions prevent them from standing up for themselves or their own values. Despite all that, Donna is a strong woman who's up to the task of being the Doctor's conscience -- my bulletproof kink.

And as for the Martha haters -- god, that's getting old. When the fuck are they going to give it a rest?

I felt a tiny bit guilty about my Donna squee for a while - but then I realised that if I won't allow myself to love both Martha and Donna equally, then how am I ever going to believe that the Doctor loves them all? It's like Tennant said; they're all special snowflakes, and I'm allowed to love them all, I don't have to choose.

That said, I can't wait for Martha to return. Omg it's going to be so so awesome. Most of all, I can't wait for Ten to finally be surrounded by two outspoken and awesome women at the same time. I will be very disappointed if they don't pwn him at least once. XD

When I was watching Series 1-2, I liked Rose. Then I watched series 3 and adored Martha. Now it's time for 4, and I'm enjoying every minute of Donna. They're all totally different, and that's why it's possible to like them all, I think. Fandom is the thing that rips the characters apart. For instance: I totally resent the fact that on any given page of fan fiction, I will find ten times the number of 10/Rose than I will 10/Martha. And if that's not enough to get me irritated, seeing requests for blatant Martha hate only gets me going all the more. Really, didn't the show do her enough injustice?

I don't feel like I'm cheating on Martha with Donna just yet, but Fandom hasn't taken its toll. If I were to favor Rose, though, I would feel like I was betraying Martha, because fandom makes it seem like you have to choose one or the other. All kinds of Freema articles state that Martha's 'moved on' and gotten over her crush on the Doctor. Don't want! I think that just opens it up for Rose to return and the Doctor to be all 'OMFG ROSE' again, and then I may just vomit. If he can continue past this season with just Donna, I think I could be happy with it.

Wow, ramble much?

Anyway, that penis face icon up there made me sporfle.

I don't think certain segments of fandom will really turn against Donna until it's made clear that their fantasy of her being the Ten/Rose yenta isn't happening, so we should be able to get at least through the finale this time without anything hitting the fan. After that, well, I rightly fear to contemplate...

The way I see it, if I deny myself some Donna love (which is never gonna happen, I love mah girl) because it may overwhelm my Martha love (don't talk crazy now) then I'm not any better than some people out there who are completely batshit obsessed with Ten/Rose, and thus would hate on any succeeding Companions just because these women did/do rock their OTP love boat. Rose was fantastic, Martha was brilliant, and Donna's friggin awesome, so I'm just gonna go my own merry way and love them all!

Honestly, I want Donna to fall for Ten so the shit will really hit the fan. Imagine the uproar if that ever happens *stares dreamily into the horizon and grabs a bucket of popcorn*

Also, I might as well follow [livejournal.com profile] persiflage_1's lead and out myself as a batshit Martha fen, but with a lifetime membership to the Donna Noble School of Awesome, lol. I love Rose but she's got enough people to spread her Word :p

I want Ten to fall for Donna. Sort of. That could take him some interesting new places. And boggle a lot of minds.

Here from [livejournal.com profile] who_daily too, and I was thinking this: I really need episode 4 to hurry up as I feel like I am slightly cheating on ma Marfa with all of my Donna love. myself just today. I am so excited for the 26th! But I am just loving Donna so, so much. I haven't really been into Who that long--November of last year is when I started watching S1 on dvd--so this entire thing is just one huge squee for me. It's so great to see people finally getting Donna. I loved her in RB, and now she's finally getting the respect she deserves.

It is nice to see those who were really against her casting eat their words.
