Flist, where is the happy shippy posts? C'mon, it's been like 20 hours and I have seen no mention. Then again, I have been burned with my ships that feature Freema and what appears to be forshadowing of something in the past. Maybe I'm wise to keep quiet about it.

Ah, what the hell: He asked her about her non-existant boyfriend, ffs. If that isn't code for 'I want to jump you quite soon' then I don't know what is. Also, am falling in love with Ben Daniels. This interview helped. He is very, erm, manly... And that voice... *daydreams* ANYWAY, I'm 'acquiring' The State Within as I type and I understand he is very 'manly' in that so YAY. To think, I couldn't stand him in Cutting It.

Oh, and I'm totally writing James/Alesha fic.

There's a discussion post up at james_alesha with a couple of thoughts, but I've seen just a hair of squee as well. I must say that I was really torn last night; for every moment that made me dip my oars in the water to row, the Faruk storyline pushed me back to the shores of friendship. This morning I woke with an idea or two that I may explore in fic form, although they'll have to work outside the stories I've already written for them.

Part of me is holding my breath until next week; I don't like having an episode named for a major character right before hiatus, especially when it's Freema's character.

I saw that interview last week and just loved every minute of it! I hope that the DVD release has good extras with the cast members.

Shit I hadn't thought of that. They can't pull a Survivors on us again, surely!

I'm trying to maintain a positive attitude about it, but I can't recall an episode of the US show ever using a character's name for the title. I do, however, remember moments of sadness when characters left. L&O is really about the formula and how various characters fit into it, so there's always been a revolving door; the very first season saw the shooting and death of the older of the detectives, and by the end of the sixth season, only one of the original cast members remained. And still it chugs along.

However, I haven't gotten a whiff or hint of Freema NOT having been involved in the filming of the entire run, and this episode doesn't sound like the one where the similarly-positioned female DA on the US show was disposed of (or the non-existent exit episode for the first assistant DA, a black male on whose character some of Alesha appears to be based), so I'm hopeful...

ETA: My main worry stems from the gut feeling I've had that this series is spending a lot more time "shipping" than the original.

That's a good point actually. I read an interview with Freema that took place on set in February so it sounds as though she was involved for the entire run.

And just for a baby!squee--how badly did I want him to offer his arm when they were walking along the river? And how much do I believe he went straight home to her for some comfort after meeting up with the mother at the memorial?
