I have stuff to update about, hooray

Noes. Dean Andrews' blog is telling me that Ashes to Ashes will not be back until April. APRIL. THAT IS LIKE FOREVER. Well, next week will be March, so April will be next month very shortly, and that is not that long at all. *tries to breath* On another A2A note, I am making a fanmix for Alex and Gene for they are very fanmix worthy. Much fun is being had looking through songs of the late seventies and early eighties. Plus, it is giving me a break from fic that is impossible to write.

Law & Order: UK started tonight. Having never watched any of the American shows, I didn't really know how the format worked (I'd only read a little about it before it aired tonight), but I was really impressed. I'm hoping we get more on the characters as the series goes on and it's not this plot focussed every week because that means I get to ship Freema with everyone. The cast were great and the storyline was interesting enough. It's good to think that most shows like this only really find their feet three or four episodes in, so chances are this is going to get better, and getting better from quite good is quite exciting, actually. Plus, it will give me something to watch between now and A2A.

Briefly, before I pop off to bed, I should mention that I watched Frost/Nixon this weekend and thought it was a really good film. Michael Sheen is a freak of nature. How does he do that? Could quite happily watch that again. Oh, and I just finished reading Liar by Stephen Fry. I love books that make me think 'what the flippin' heck is going on here?' all the way through, and I'm pleased to say that I just about figured it out by the end. I felt ever so pleased with myself, and of course, thoroughly entertained. That Stephen Fry's a clever chap, isn't he.

I ship Alesha/Matt like burning. Obviously this has nothing at all to do with my combined love for Jamie Bamber and Freema Agyeman and them both being stupidly pretty. THEY HAD A ~MOMENT~ THOUGH, I'M NOT BEING COMPLETELY SHALLOW.

They did have a moment, you're right. In my head, though, so did Alesha and James, and I like being awkward with my ships sometimes. ;)

so did Alesha and James

Wasn't the "you did a good job" moment just lovely? And ITV's press pack said that pretty much everyone in court gossips about James and Alesha being secretly in love so there's that.

I don't know what the English one is going to do, but the various American ones are largely more plotty focused. Though SVU does still sound like it's got a lot of shipping between the two main officers. Of course, I don't watch regularly so I don't really see how personal development works on them.

I really wanna see Frost/Nixon. I hardly ever see the movies I want to see, but that's definitely up there. I love Frank Langella, who most of the talk has been surrounding over here, but Michael Sheen fascinates me and I love the idea of putting David Frost at the center of all this stuff, so I find myself focusing on him.

Michael Sheen fascinates me

He always gets the most incredible roles and he always, always shines in them. Oh dear, I fear I may be fangirling him. :/

As a long-time (and, as my husband would say, obsessive) US L&O fan, I can tell you that the mothership (which is the main show on which this one is based) tends to focus 99.9% on the plot of the episode. The relationships between the characters and information about their personal lives is generally doled out in the tiniest of trickles throughout the series. I can't WAIT to see the UK version of the show just cause I love it so much, but Freema makes it all the sweeter!

I'm thinking we're gonna get some character stuff because a lot of stuff I've read about the show goes into detail about the characters. I guess we'll wait and see.

Oh, we'll definitely get character development; I'm just not expecting much about their non-work lives to be revealed right away, except for the bits they show as they go through their work day. If they do give us more, I'll be happy, though, as I've grown fond of the six principals already!

I think the script for the first ep was so-so but all the actors were great, specially in the prosecution. The team Ben Daniels-Freema-Bill Patterson is made of win. Also, James /Alesha OTP.

Also, James /Alesha OTP.

I know you've been saying that since you saw the previews, but oh God, you are so, so right.

I know, right? They hit all my kinks, age-difference, mentor-pupil, trust, loyalty, how they are both the most idealistic characters in the show, how she totally admires him but keeps challenging him - I pretty much guess Alesha's role is to keep James on his feet, I've felt a self-destructive mood in James that needs Alesha's down-to-earthness as a counterpoint.

okay, at this point i'm talking shit and over-analyzing ITV's press pack but dude, only cause I SHIP SO HARD.

Fanmix FTW!

*needs it to be April nao kthnx*

L&O is all plot, all the time. Like...all the time. Except for L&O: SVU, which does character stuff...slowly...and...not all the time.

Frost/Nixon was one of my top movies of last year. Because it was fantastic (and also because of the blonde, floppy-haired and unexpectedly naked Matthew. Ahem).

[identity profile] magicallaw.livejournal.com 2009-02-24 07:37 am (UTC)(link)
Unexpected Naked Matthew was totally, totally welcome in my house too. :D

The first episode, "Care", was very good for a long-time Law & Order fan like myself. It really does capture the style of the parent series and all of the episodes are MASSIVELY plotty with snippets of character development here and there (which is how I generally like my procedurals). Color me very very very pleased. I even raved about it to my definitely-not-interested partner because it was so much closer than I expected to the US counterparts. They did a fantastic job capturing the essence of L&O but with a distinctively UK flavor.

\o/!

For some reason I had it in my head that A2A wasn't coming back so the news that it's back in April actually gave me some glee.

Wasn't it SO GOOD? Like just about everyone else, I'm already loving Matt/Alesha. I'm so excited to see where this goes!

Also I am dying to see that film. It just looks so good. I'm trying to go round all the Oscar films because they all look phenomenal. I'm seeing Milk tomorrow and then I think it'll be Frost/Nixon :)
