Have spent the weekend re-reading all the Ten/Romana fic I have bookmarked because I am sad that my ship won't ever be canon now. THANKS, TENNANT. I hope people continue to write it after he dies, but then maybe Eleven/Romana will be nifty as well. I'd still quite like there to be Ten/Master as well, but then I haven't read any new Ten/Master fic in ages and ages so perhaps it doesn't matter as much. Maybe if Simm returns as the Master for one of the specials it might inspire more people, IDK. Has anyone read any good ones recently? REC ME, PLS.

The series 4 boxset comes out today and I can't figure out how if I'm excited or not. This time last week I was, but today, the thought of sitting through certain episodes does not appeal. Yes, I'm looking at you The Doctor's Daughter. Actually the thought of watching that again has never excited me. I think that particular episode can be filed next to The Idiot's Lantern in the Unlikely To Ever Watch Ever Again category. I'm very tempted to watch Journey's End even though I swore I never would ever again. I want to see if it makes any more sense now. I doubt it.

I have at least one last Ten/Romana hurrah, although I'd quite like to write Romana/Eleven. Preferably before Eleven is cast. Hmm.

I love Ten/Romana, but he can be such an idiot that I do find myself thinking that she might prefer the Next One.

Ys re: Ten/Romana. I ship them hard cos Ten is so emo and would love to get Romana back so he wasn't All Alone So Very Alone.

Lol seriously, I'd happily never see The Doctor's Daughter again, which pisses me right off, because it's a Martha ep. I just need an edited version with just Martha.

I'd quite like to watch the goodbye at the end and maybe the beginning before where she gets kidnapped and her and Donna are totes doing it BFFS. Other than that. Meh.

On my flight to and from London last month, the only episode of DW Virgin had to offer was "The Doctor's Daughter." Out of all the S4 episodes they could have picked, that was the best they could do? (But I still watched part of it anyway, because it was something like 3am my time and I couldn't sleep.)

Nah. They'd have had to show me "Gridlock" for that.

Yeah, sorry, I'm one of the few people who absolutely cannot stand that episode. Actually, I like the first 10 minutes or so and the last 5 minutes -- I just hated everything in between.

Hey, dude, we like what we like. I get that most of fandom hates Fathers Day but I adore it.

I just watched it again recently, and it's not so bad. Not great, mind you, but it's fun, the Doctor is angsty, Donna's clever, Jenny's adorable, Martha is... there. And there's backflips. Not a total loss.

It's never going to go down as the Best! Episode! Ever! or anything, but it's not as bad as, say, Evolution of the Daleks.

I didn't really get what was so special about Jenny. *shrugs* Donna is quite good in it, you're right. But she's also good in lots of other eps so I shall watch them instead, methinks.

I don't think Jenny's so special, but I do think she's adorable. It wasn't enough to salvage this episode, though. It wasn't a total loss, but it was by far not the best episode. However, it's not the worst, by far.

I think I would have been happier if the great big war they were fighting had been more than seven days old. Even seven weeks would have been more believable. Martha could have been used to much better effect. And there's that whole thing where Jenny gets shot in the chest, and doesn't bleed at all.

All in all, it's not my favourite episode, but it has its good points as well as the bad.

There'll always be plenty of space in between JE and the various specials for Ten/Romana, no fear.

Me neither. [livejournal.com profile] jonquil and I are working on one for fun but as far as the wider fandom, it feels like that bird has flown. Unless he does return for a special and there'll be an uptick again for awhile.

i watched the idiot's lantern again last night as part of my s2 rewatch. i think it is probably the worst episode of new who ever. it is tedious and it is complete crap. at least most of the time when dw is crap it's ridiculous and makes you want to yell "wtf?" and throw things, but that episode just makes you want to hibernate until you die of starvation.

the doctor's daughter is bad, but it is a normal kind of bad that comes from the story being a bit shite and illogical, and putting lame stuff in like backflips. all the regular characters are really good and it has the doctor being the doctor, and also the bit at the end where the doctor and martha hug and they understand each other too well. meanwhile, no one cured all diseases with kool-aid, so the plot wasn't as bad as it could have been.

what other episodes from s4 wouldn't you want to sit through? the doctor's daughter is the only really bad one. well, except for the finale eps. which aren't bad so bad if you turn off JE before the last 15 minutes. which i never do because then i miss out on jackie making fun of nate. also remember the greatness of SitL/FotD. it is for real one of my favourite episodes ever. i like it because two episodes before (in tDD) the doctor is saying he can never love again, and then in the library river song shows up and proves to him that he can, and he will, and it scares the shit out of him. plus donna is wintastic. also lee is gorgeous. hmm... that became shallow at the end. oh well.

i think the last good ten/simm!master i read was by [livejournal.com profile] bagheera_san. *goes to find* ah, here we go. To The Bone. it is awesome.

Maybe it TDD won't be so bad after a while, like Fear Her wasn't. I ignore the Olympic torch thing and focus on how great Rose is in it.

On the other episodes, I like them all as stand alones. They just don't work well as a series. Not like series 3 anyway. Series 3 has pretty much ruined me for all other shows.

Thanks for the rec, shall read that shortly.
